Masters & Doctoral Students

Mentoring students is for me one of the highlights of my profession. Besides advising students on course work, I provide detailed feedback on their research and work in progress, mentor them in academic writing, presentations, and grant writing, and support them in their search for internships and jobs. I encourage them to see themselves as part of a larger intellectual community that entails collaboration with faculty members and graduate students at other universities, active participation in professional associations (notably Comparative and International Education Society CIES) and support of ongoing professional activities at Teachers College, Columbia University (in particular the journal Current Issues in Comparative Education).

At the doctoral level, I only advise doctoral students in my own areas of expertise, notably, international and comparative education with a specialization in sociology, political science, and/or global governance, policy and planning.
